About Me

Hi, my name is Angela, and I'm the blogger at Hippo Hooray for Second Grade! Thanks so much for stopping by! I have been teaching since 2005. My first 10 years were as a second grade teacher, and then I graduated to third grade. I spent 6 years there, had a one-year stint in 5th grade, and now I'm teaching fourth grade. My Bachelor's degree is in elementary/middle education and I have a minor in ESL. I also earned my Master's degree in Learning and Teaching. My teaching passions include reader's and writer's workshop, guided math, interactive notebooks, and formative assessments.

I am married to my best friend and high school sweetheart. Together we have three crazy, awesome kiddos! I love playing hockey, crocheting, and adding to my hippo collection. Living in Wisconsin, we are BIG Packers, Brewers, and Badger fans!

I opened my Teachers Pay Teachers store in November 2012 as a way for me to share the resources I make for my classroom. I love the creative outlet that resource designing gives me. I tend to create things that I would only use in my classroom, and so you'll find a lot of math formative and summative assessments, daily math warm ups, interactive notebooks, reader's theatre scripts, and more!

SO WHAT'S WITH THE HIPPO?

I get asked that a lot. When I was 14, my family went on vacation to San Diego, and of course we went to the zoo. I don't know why or how, but that's where my fascination with hippos started. I got my first stuffed hippo from there (his name is Simon). It's just something that has stuck with me ever since, and my students love it too! They get so excited when they give me a new hippo stuffed animal or figurine! Here are some of the hippos in my classroom:

This isn't all of them... It's just a slight obsession... I probably have a total of 50-60 hippos in my classroom. I think it's unique and fun :)
